Isokinetic Testing

The gold standard for measuring muscle strength at controlled speeds. Isokinetic testing isolates the injured tissue's true force capacity — the benchmark surgeons and consultants recognise for post-op clearance.

What Isokinetic Testing Measures

Peak Torque & Torque Curves

Full torque curves through the range of motion at controlled angular velocities — revealing not just how strong you are, but where in the arc the muscle fails, angles that standard strength tests miss.

Hamstring:Quadriceps Ratio

The H:Q balance between knee flexors and extensors — a key indicator of knee stability and hamstring strain risk, and a central criterion in return-to-sport decision making.

Bilateral & Ipsilateral Deficits

Limb symmetry indices between injured and uninjured sides, tested at slow (maximal strength) and fast (functional power) speeds. Surgeons commonly look for ≥90% symmetry before clearing contact sport.

Rate of Force Development

How quickly the muscle reaches force — the explosive quality that matches what sport actually demands, and the last quality to recover after surgery.

Where Isokinetic Testing Fits

It complements our VALD and speed testing — deep tissue-level data inside the whole-system profile.

Post-Operative Clearance

After ACL reconstruction, knee arthroscopy and other knee surgery, isokinetic symmetry data gives your surgeon objective evidence that the quadriceps and hamstrings have truly recovered.

ACL Return-to-Play Criteria

Combined with ForceDecks hop testing and speed-gate change-of-direction benchmarks, isokinetic ratios form the final stage of our ACL clearance battery.

ACL Management →

Persistent Deficits & Recurrent Injuries

For athletes with repeated hamstring, quad or calf problems, torque curves and speed-specific deficits often expose the exact strength quality that screening missed.

Our Principle

If you don’t measure it, how do you know it’s improving?

Rehabilitation is a puzzle, and no single test gives us the full picture.

Isokinetic testing is one of the objective measures we use to quantify strength, identify deficits, track progress and help guide return-to-play decisions.

Measure → Understand → Progress → Return.
